Commemorating the centenary through education

To mark the centenary of WWI, Australia Post has developed an education website containing teaching resources and a student interactive to assist primary students to discover more about the efforts and sacrifices made by our service men and women.

    School children from across Australia are invited to capture their individual reflections about those Australians who have sacrificed their lives for us in conflicts by writing their individual thoughts upon a Commemorative Cross.

This issue, the fourth in a series commemorating a century since World War I, acknowledges the role of women in war and conflict. Prior to and including World War I, the involvement of women in conflict zones was almost entirely limited to nursing. Since then, women’s roles have diversified and today all roles are open to women.
